The Gir Trip

Jackal
A Jackal at Gir National Park, Gujarat

So much happened on this trip that my head spins. So here are some of the highlights of my trip writtenย randomly.

  • Got to get involved for the first time with a product launch and what energy it takes! I am amazed at the amount of work the organizers were putting in.
  • Met hot shot wild life photographer Nayan Khanolkar. Always with a smile, always with a kind word and always willing to share a story or two about wildlife and photography.
  • My first sightings of the big cat and how! Pics will come soon but they were taken in low light when the likes of Nayan were not even shooting still.
  • Attending press conferences, they are not so scary after all!
  • Meeting Luke Kenny, and chatting and having lunch with him. As we were the only vegetarians at the table we shared the lunch. When he asked me to order something I told him, “No, you go ahead, I will have a celebrity lunch today.” Also asked for celebrity recommendations about places to see in Mumbai.
  • Spending so much time in the Yeti.
  • Seeing the lion pictures of the of the rangers shot with a point and shoot and how close they were to the lions and what images they clicked. Mr. Sagar, I am grateful that you showed me the images.
  • Like the way our guide, Mr. Ramesh asked us, ‘Sher dekhna hai ya chidiya? Sher dekhna hai tou kuch aur nahin dikhaunga!” “What do you want to see Lions or birds? If you want to see the lions I will not show you any birds!”
  • Seeing the locals of the African origin dance!
  • And there is so much more. Detailed posts and a Gonomad story will follow.

  1. Looks like a fun and activity filled trip! waiting for your pics and story.. the jackal looks awesome! we saw one in binsar when it ran across the road.. i was just too surprised to click, even though i had a camera in my hand!

  2. Abhilash, you are the boss, small or big comment all are most welcome. ๐Ÿ˜€

Sangfroid, if consisted of Veg Biryani and Dal Makhani. ๐Ÿ˜€ We thought of Chinese but decided not to risk it at a hotel called Bawa International. The logic of the hotel was that it was two minutes drive from the airport.

I hope I am able to post some Chitra. ๐Ÿ˜€

Anu wild life is like that I guess. ๐Ÿ˜€
