What Nickname You will Choose if You got Another Chance

Posted on November 1, 2015May 22, 2025

On more than one international trips, I have been acutely aware of the spelling of my name. It is Mridula Dwivedi. People get thoroughly stuck at Mr itself, we have never reached at the Dw bit ever! I have been nicknamed twice already. Hence the question-ย what nickname you will choose if you got another chance?

It looks like I already got many chances to choose a nickname- on Twitter (Now X) , Pintrest, Instagram etc. And what did I choose- mridulablog everywhere! See how imaginative I am!

If you are curious I was called Mili by people on a trip in Malaysia and Lady M more recently. It is a coincidence that both are characters in a movie- Mili is the heroine in the Hindi movie by the same name and M is after all James Bond!

Now I am in a fix. While I am a firm believer of ‘What’s in a name …’ by Shakespeare I have also seen people struggling to pronounce it. So here I am with an unique opportunity- to choose a nickname for myself again!

While I am perfectly happy with the name my late grandfather gave me ‘Mridula’ I am also sympathetic to people who wish to address me by name. And they simply can’t! Mridulablog will not help as it still as the same dreaded Mr in it. In fact if they could say Mridula I would not need any other name.

nickname
What’s in a Name?

Now the question is what should it be? Should I simply go with what has already worked- Mili or M? But if I am asking the question it shows I am not happy with either!

So my kind readers if you were in my situation what would you do? Make people struggle to say your name, go with the flow pick from Mili or M or choose a name again? I am in a fix!

I feel you should just go with your existing name- Mridula! You love it too!
Let those who can’t pronounce, take the liberty of Mili or M ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t mind nick names and I have had many.
But one name stumped me: ‘I’.
and when the person addressed me with ‘My dear I’ I was like whom is this mail addressed to!!!
Mridula means soft and gentle, I don’t think any other name would suit you better! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ooh you have no idea what people do with names. With a short name like Ami, people find myriad ways of pronouncing it. I honestly, don’t think that I could have a nick name or a pseudonym shorter than what I already have. ๐Ÿ™‚

In your case, I think you should just go with what makes you happy. ๐Ÿ™‚ After all, a rose is a rose by any other name .

You have a lovely name “Mridula”, Mridula! I have a doubt if anyone of those 20K followers of this page and 1700+ your FB follwers has found it difficult to call or remember. So why it should be something else? You may have more than one nick name. Be yourself Mili or M or Mohini for them who love to call you by that.

There is a reason for everything… a tough name may be tough to speak but once remembered it is tough to forget to…

I would go ahead and declare either M or R in Mridula was silent. This will take the pressure off the tongue of those stiff tongued foreigners.

    Hi Mridual,

Just came across your blogs a few days back, and since then I haven’t stopped reading them almost every other day. Really nice!
You have a really lovely name, Mridula; & as far as Indians are concerned, I think most of them should know how to pronounce it. For people from other countries; yes this name may be a bit difficult.
So let them decide what they wish to call you, since its upon them how they comfortable they are in pronouncing it. :))
How does the nickname “dula” sound? cute & short & not very difficult I suppose.
    All the best!
