10 things in Singapore that never go out of fashion

Fashion is dynamic; it evolves with current trends, fads and styles. But some things never lose its old charm. They always stay in fashion. Like no matter how many times you watch the sunset, you can never get tired of it. Likewise, there are a few places in Singapore that are evergreen.

1. Night outs!

The best thing to do in Singapore after the sundown is ‘Party’! The Clarke and Boat Quay area turns into party hubs for all age groups offering extraordinary nightlife experience. Down by the riverside of the Colonial District, Clarke is lined up with most popular bars, pubs and nightclubs. On the other hand Boat Quay is where much of local Singaporeans have their fun with pubs perched on the edge of the Singapore River.

Tip for adventure lovers:

Other equally exciting and popular shopping destinations are Chinatown and Orchard Road.

Though the smaller shops only accept cash, don’t carry too much of liquid currency. There are ATM machines located in the market area and you can always withdraw additional cash as and when require. And yes, no bargaining! Most of the shops have fixed prices but if you buy in bulk they might reduce the price.

3. Explore the wild @night

You can enjoy the wildlife at Singapore Zoo and Singapore Safari during the daytime. However, Singapore has an extraordinary experience of the wild at night – the Night Safari which is excellent for thrill seekers and adventure lovers. Through the use of special lightning, the Night Safari allows you to observe what the nocturnal animals get up to after dusk. The 45-minute narrated tram ride is the best way to see the animals from the safety of your seat. For the brave hearts, there are dark walking trails to get a closer look of the wild animals.

4. Up in the air!

I am indeed talking about the iconic Singapore Flyer! Though it is fun to ride this giant observation wheel, the best time to hop on is during the sunset. You will get to see the glittering skyline of Singapore which is undeniably charismatic.

For the love-birds, I recommend to try the sky dinning experience on Singapore Flyer. This one-hour ride will surely double your romance with delicious food, exclusive butler service and magnificent skyline views.

5. Live like locals

For a day, how about experiencing the daily lives of Singaporeans? Venture beyond the hub of the city to visit the suburban neighbourhoods where the local resides. Shop at the local stores and socialize at the local pubs and clubs. One such region – Toh Payoh features a bustling local mall as well as the grand Buddhist temple.

Tip for rural experience:

Head to Pulau Ubin – dotted with beaches and legendary old Malay houses, it is an excellent reminder of old Singapore. The best way to explore this area is on a bicycle which costs around SGD 3 to SGD 8 depending on the duration of rent.

6. Breakfast with the birds

One of the newest and popular attractions of Singapore – the Jurong Bird Park houses more than 8,000 birds from 600 species. Featuring multitude of exotic and endangered species, the biggest attraction of this park include the largest walk-in aviary in the world, where you will find a 98 feet long man-made waterfall and  over 1,500 birds flying freely within the huge compound.

If you like your buffets in the company of cheeky primates don’t miss the Singapore Zoo’s ‘Jungle Breakfast with Wildlife’. It is best to book ahead, especially for weekends as it’s usually full. Your breakfast companions will include the zoo’s obscenely adorable orang-utans. If you miss out (the orang-utans are out until 10:00am), you can still get that happy snap shot with them at the zoo’s ‘Free Ranging Orang-utan Island’ (between 11:00am and 03:30pm) and ‘Free Ranging Orang-utan Boardwalk at 04:30om.

7. For the child in you!

Singapore is an excellent holiday destination for families due to the world-famous Universal Studios and Sentosa Island. These action-packed adventure theme parks are fun-filled and each one requires one full day to experience every ride and attraction.

Tip for the selfie lovers:

Do keep your camera batteries fully charged as these theme parks offer excellent number of photo opportunities, each eligible to become your ‘Display Picture’. From Hollywood characters to marine life to adventure rides, you get the best backdrop to make your friends jealous.

8. Bring your photo skills ALIVE!

One of the newly added attractions in Singapore, the ALIVE Museum offers excellent photo-op with 3D art and paintings. It allows visitors to pose in fun ways and become a part of the 3D painting.

Tip for the photo-lovers:

If you are in the town area (SUNTEC Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre) and have just few hours, opt for the ALIVE Museum. If you are visiting Sentosa Island, you can visit the Trick Eye Museum which offers similar experience.

9. Get to know the underwater world

Be it the S.E.A Aquarium at Universal Studios or the Marine Life Park at Sentosa Island; you will have memorable time with the underwater world. At S.E.A Aquarium, you start with the Maritime Experiential Museum and then proceed to encounter over 1,00,000 marine animals of over 800 species from over 49 different habitats.

Tip for experiential traveller:

According to your convenience, have either lunch or dinner at the Ocean restaurant located at S.E.A Aquarium which offers Singapore’s first aquarium dining experience. You can also visit the Adventure Cove Water Park to plunge into the water theme park. For Dolphin lovers, Sentosa Island has the Marine Life Park’s Dolphin Island which gives you an opportunity to interact with dolphins.

10. Pamper your senses

What better than pampering your senses after a day full of activities or shopping? Singapore offers some of the world-class spa facilities with unique settings. Though there are many spa centres with high and mid price card, you can opt for the ones suitable for your pocket and choice.
