Klompen- Wooden Dutch Shoes
I was exchanging emails with a colleague in UK (who is Dutch) and he mentioned Klompens in some context. I googled it and of course realized that they are the cute Dutch shoes that you could buy as a souvenir.
Now this time when I was at Lancaster he invited my colleague and me home for a dinner with his kids. And that is when I realized that Klopmens are real shoes! I asked his permission and asked if I could take a picture? He posed with them and a Dutch flag and then I took a picture that you can see. I threatened him that I would post his picture on this blog but he was not afraid!
ohh is it heavy to wear? do they use them daily?
Wooden shoes, reminds me of the kind Called as Khadav that is worn by some rishis and Munis.But Dutch shoes are different.

These are damn cute, but yes, i wonder if they are heavy to wear around. seen them in Travel shows and on the Amazing race!!:)

I have one of those. I mean the souvenirs. :-)Yes, they are wearable and in older days used for crushing grapes to make wines.

I had seen the miniature ones before in Amsterdam but it took a Dutch colleague to know that they are for real and not just souveiner. 😀
Hi, I came here via google for klompen + souvenirs. I’m Dutch and I can tell you that clogs or ‘klompen’ are not heavy to wear, being made out of wood, and are quite comfortable to wear if you wear them with thick socks. If you would go to Holland you wouldn’t meet a single person wearing clogs in the city, but some people do wear them for work in their gardens of in the field. They’re nice and warm in winter and easy to step out of when there’s mud on them and you want to go back indoors. I’ve got a pair and so does my husband (size 43, they don’t look like they belong to a doll ;-)). We wear them every once in a while. Bye!
