Now You See Me, Now You Donโ€™t

This year, 2016, has brought in a lot of new things for me travel blogging wise. When I used to work and blog I had a rhythm! After all I had been doing it for 10 long years! I started my blog in 2005 and I started working in 2002! And I kept doing both till 2015. However I did not expect 2016 to become now you see me now you don’t!

Then in a surprise move, surprising for me too, I quit my job in May 2015. Ideally I should have been better at blogging, but I doubt if I have been able to do that.

I have managed to get the travel part right, I have been traveling a lot. One day I sat down and counted, I have done 21 trips of various shapes and size since January 2016. That has meant a lot of flight tickets arriving in my mailbox and catching a lot of flights!

This year the foreign travel count stands on 4 till now, United Kingdom, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Israel. Other than Israel all have been repeat visits. That also meant managing foreign exchange for every trip!

However there has been two fallouts of traveling so much. First has been my writing schedule going for a toss. I think I was better at blogging when I used to work, I knew exactly when to write a quick blogpost. Also with full time work leaves were limited and I would not travel so much. That gave me more time for writing. Now there is more travel but much less writing and I donโ€™t like it one bit.

And finally about two weeks back both my husband and I fell sick. We coordinated it well, I started feeling unwell on Saturday night and he Sunday afternoon. And unlike other times, it is taking us a lot of time to recover. I have already cancelled a trip (to Kerala) and I am jittery about a flight I am taking on Wednesday to Manila, Philippines. But I am taking that flight.

I now work more at airports, when I used to work full time I took immense pride on not working at airports! That is all gone for a toss. I tried working in planes too but thankfully due to my motion sickness I cannot. In a way I am happy, I still watch movies on a flight!

I was quite restless while I was just traveling but now that I became unwell, the restlessness has gone through the roof! So for the rest of the months the task is to keep in good health, get fitter and to write more! So now you know why you see me on the blog then you donโ€™t!

Thank you Shrinidhi, the intern will get only writing assignments and not traveling assignments because I want to do all the traveling!

  1. Guess you are now in a phase of finding a balance, for some time you had the opportunity for giving in to your unbridled passion and love travel which is natural.A balance will set in in the best interests of health and happiness… All the best Mridula!

  2. As spiderman once said “with great powers
comes great responsibilities” thus with the power of your blogging you will be able to get over this and be back blogging the way you always wanted it to be. Have a good health, wealth and tons of happiness ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Good for you that you travel so much! Its only a matter of time before you establish a rhythm that works for you. Motion sickness on flights – never heard of that! I am terribly motion sick on the road.

Get well soon, Mridula. Yeah, you’re right that job does’nt allow you enough room to follow dreams. Wish I could do what you did. Keep blogging.
