A Rainy Day Adventure at Ambience Mall Gurgaon with Mom

Posted on July 11, 2025July 12, 2025

One rain and the evening turns from fun to almost disaster, here is Chhavi’s account of our adventure at Ambience mall when rain came on July 9 in Gurgaon! Over to Chhavi!

On July 9 my mom and I decided to take a simple coffee outing to Ambience Mall. Sounds easy, right? Well, it turned into quite the mini adventure!

We left home around 3.00 pm, it was a bright, sunny day. At the mall, Mom ordered her usual coffee, and I went for something a little different, a refreshing raspberry iced tea. Oh, and we couldn’t resist a cinnamon roll to share, the perfect combo!

While sipping our drinks, I was busy creating some YouTube Shorts, and Mom was doing her own thing, probably plotting her next big idea. After finishing up, we wandered around the mall, taking in the sights and sounds. We did some window shopping but bought nothing, because mom always plays the trump card, do you want to spend it now or save and take a trip later? Well, how can I say no to a trip?

A few hours later, hunger struck again, so we headed to the food court on the third floor. Mom grabbed some tea, and I treated myself to momos, because who can resist momos?

Then came the highlight: pizza time! We found a spot at Pizza Express, ordered a delicious pizza and some drinks. Mom chose a mysterious “devil’s drink” (whatever that means), and I stuck with my trusty raspberry slushy. We were happily digging into food, when mom’s phone rang.

It was my dad called with a warning: “It’s pouring outside, get out fast” We finished our food quickly and hurried to Gate 4 to book a cab and head home, only to find a crowd of people also trapped by the rain, all trying to book cabs. Spoiler alert: no luck.

At 8.30 pm we started looking for cabs, first normally and then frantically. After an hour of constant trying our phone batteries started to run low, mine at 3%, Mom’s dead. Thankfully, Mom had her charger in her purse (smart move!). We managed to charge our phones at an ice cream kiosk. It was mighty decent of them to let mom charge her phone without any fuss!

We kept trying different spots, different gates, for a cab, but the rain wasn’t letting up, and neither were the crowds. The night went on, and finally at 9.45 pm, I called Dad to do something. He managed to book a cab with a local taxi stand. But as there was waterlogging and chaos all over the city, the cab was going to take some time to arrive.

So we wandered inside the mall but then we got tired. We found some vacant seats and sat in a corner. The shop in front was about to shut. We watched a shopkeeper struggle to close the shutter as it was probably malfunctioning. The shutter closed slowly inch by inch and we were left wondering, what will happen first? Will the shutter go down or our cab would arrive? The shop won, in about 30 minutes, the shutter went down but our cab was still some distance away.

Finally at 10.55 pm our large comfy cab was there, at Gate 3 of the Ambience Mall, with a really polite driver! I can’t remember when I was so happy to see a cab arrive. It took us one hour to reach home, but hey, we were finally home safe and sound!

So yes, a simple coffee outing turned into a full-on rain adventure. Now that we are home, it seems like adventure, but when we were going through it, it was not.

When I asked mom what would she do if we did not get a cab at all, she said she would go the hotel attached to mall, swipe her card and book a room for us! Well, you can trust mom, to think of everything!

If you are wondering why dad didn’t come to pick us up? Well, we have a small car, if he took it out on that rainy night on the waterlogged streets, there would be three people stranded, mom and I in the mall and dad somewhere on the road!
