Sumida River Walk, Tokyo

Sumida River Walk, Tokyo in the Cherry Blossom Season

My sister Alka and I visited Japan in 2025 during the cherry blossom season. It was also my sister’s milestone birthday, so I was much focused in that and less on anything else. While planning I realized we were going to be there during the cherry blossom season!

We realized we were a little early in the season. So, we looked for early blooms in Tokyo and found Sumida River Walk as one of the options. The nearest metro station is Asakusa. So, off we went looking for cherry blossoms and we found them!

Not only we found cherry blossoms, we also found a beautiful bamboo grove! We also saw locals doing Hanami nearby and offering beer to a passerby!

While coming back we found an Indian restaurant, I think it is named Kailash, where we sat down for tea and samosas! They were delicious!

What we didn’t expect to find were love locks and it was such a nice surprise! It is called Yumi Katsura Lover’s Sanctuary! I had not seen any mention of it while researching online!

There was some sitting space available too and it was popular with everyone. We also sat there for a while and admired the Skytree view!

Then we crossed over the bridge and walked towards a few awesome flowering trees. They had a group of admirers around them!

I had a great time around these gorgeous trees and the gorgeous people! Just a few trees added so much to our joy!

I didn’t go to Japan expecting cherry blossoms but I got to see plenty, particularly towards the end of our trip! I am sure I am going back again.

After a while we crossed the road, and walked towards the Skytree! We had a wonderful time roaming around on the Sumida River Walk! So, if you find yourself in Tokyo a little early for the cherry blossoms, check out the Sumida River Walk for some early blooms!
