We are thinking of heading to the Jim Corbett national Park later in Feb. The major factor is the amount of leave available to me (another new semester has started) and we do not want to go too far. If you have been there do let me know how did you find the place.
I went there in Feb 2004, so it has been a while (bunked techkriti in the final yr of iit :). The place is nice, natural beauty and wildlife are great, but I did feel a little claustrophobic because you are not allowed to explore the area too much. You will have to take elephant/jeep safaris to get outside the central living quarters. Good enough for 2-3 days, but not longer (atleast for me – I need to hike hike hike!!)
Oh, I agree bunking Techkriti must have felt good 🙂 And thanks for the update. We can manage just a small break (2-3 days) so looks like Corbett would do. Unless someone comes up with something more tempting nearby.
Indeed. Grab the opportunity right away. If it’s in the vicinity – why not! For me too, a trip to Corbett (and other places) is long overdue. Often it was turned down for some othe other reason. Let’s see when does it happen!Though It’s the right time (comfortable) for the visitors, yet my friend who lives close to Corbett did tell me once that tigers and other animals do come out of hiding in warmer months. (I guess seeking water)
Hi Mridula:I have been a regular visitor to Corbett for the past five years ( at least twice a year) and I can not get enough of it.Some suggestions :1. Id you are visiting for the first time. then try to go there in April instead of Feb. Feb is quite cold hence there is is less animal movement.2. Make sure you stay inside the jungle in one of the rest houses. You dont get to stay inside the jungle in any other project tiger reserve.3. Dhikala is the best possible option for stay but it is difficult to get accomodation booking there.Other options are Gairal and Sarpduli. There is a rest house at Khinanauli but most of the time it is booked for VIPs. The Sultan rest house is useless.4. The forest department does not allow more than 2 nights stay at a stretch, so you can be there for three days and two nights. If you need more information, let me know.
Sounds great! Do explore all the corners of Corbett and as always I will poke you for your wonderful travelog once you come back… hehehe :)- Priyank
Go for it. Ideal time. Landscapes will be totally magical. Forget the tigers, just idle by the river and you will want nothing more in life.
Rajeev, we know about the warmer months being better but then we need a break right now!Mith, many many thanks for the suggestions. Let us see if we are lucky with our booking.Priyank, if we are unable to book an accommodation inside the park maybe we will go somewhere else. Arun thanks for all the help.
