The summer of 2024 was unusually harsh in Delhi NCR! As my daughter plays tennis, we are outdoors in all kind of weather! We have been doing this for a long time. So I have a theory about Indian summers, particularly around Delhi.
I remember saying to my sister Alka, “it will be really hot for about 5-6 weeks and then it will cool off! I was proven so wrong this summer though. My theory was torn to bits by the weather gods. The month of May burned like hell continuously.
By the time I realized this summer was different, it was early June and school holidays were in full force. Going to any hill station would mean insane crowd which I am not willing to deal with. So, we went to a place which is not a summer destination, we went to Jaipur.
I have a long association with Jaipur. I did my graduation and post graduation at Banasthali which is close to Jaipur. So, I used to pass through Jaipur in the 1990s as well. But recently Chhavi started playing tennis matches in Jaipur and we stay at Ibis Jaipur frequently. So we, my sister Alka, Chhavi and I went there again in June and the plan was to sit in AC and do nothing! It turned out to be a good plan!
We decided to wear a saree on our first full day there! None of us wear a saree in our daily life, so when we do it becomes a fun saga! Alka and Chhavi started clicking pictures right in the corridor outside our room!
When it comes to taking pictures, I am the one in the family who does it the most. But clicking people is Alka’s forte, she is the one who gets it right, every time!
When we ventured outdoors briefly around the premises of Ibis Jaipur we realized Jaipur was not as hot as Delhi! But still, it was hot enough! We ran back to the lobby quickly to cool down!
Even though all of us don’t wear saree in our routine, we certainly enjoy wearing it once in a while and we most certainly do a photo shoot!
I love clicking pictures of Alka because she makes no fuss, on the other hand if you try taking pictures of mine, I behave like Calvin.
It is easier for me, when I am not looking at the camera! And my family knows that too! Looking at this photo I also wonder why my hair turns to this phool jhadu look always!
I like to click Alka and Chhavi together because they both enjoy getting clicked! Also Chhavi knows she can get away with a lot of natak because masi is there!
Chhavi likes to get clicked but it difficult to make her take pictures! She behaves better when Masi is around! So, this was our saree saga at Ibis Jaipur. We adored our idea of simply going to a hotel, sit in AC, eat food, drink coffee and tea and just do nothing. We just ventured out one evening to do some shopping and it was truly hot. Still, I am sure we will take more such trips to Jaipur!
