To Beat the Heat

Women in India cover the face to avoid sunburn
To Beat the Heat

I spent a lot of time with the Hawa Mahal and for sometime I was looking out of the colored glasses towards the road. A few glasses were broken so I could click some pictures as well.

It was actually quite fascinating to use my zoom lens without being observed. I have often seen girls in North India covering their faces to avoid sunburn but before this I was never able to click a good picture. I have never though covered my face like this.

I was surprised to learn that light clothing is not a protection for sun damage. I always thought it was enough to cover up…

While I was in Indore, I happened to see many such girls with their covered. Perhaps they cover as a protection from pollution. Don’t be surprised if they cover themselves so in order to conceal their identities as well. If it was done only to protect from the heat (let’s say to avoid sunburn), then she’d have covered her hands as well. Was it really hot weather when this picture was shot?
