Naldhera is a sleepy town in Himachal Pradesh close to Shimla. The nearest railway head is Kalka and Shatabdi is a convenient train! I detest crowded places and I have always given Shimla a miss. However, Naldhera is a beautiful sleepy little town about 19 kilometers away from Shimla.
I stayed at the Chalets (I was invited) which is a cozy place. They have a heated swimming pool as well. But then this post is about Naldhera in general.
You will enjoy Naldhera only if you wish to do nothing or if you play golf! I do not play golf so I had to be content with doing nothing. It also means walking aimlessly in my dictionary. And that is what I did, ate a lot of food and walked around the town!
And that took me to the Gold Course! It was a rainy day. The clouds were making everything doubly beautiful. There were warnings around the golf course telling people to beware of the gold balls, they could be fatal! Close to the gold course is a temple decorated with nags (snakes). There was hardly anyone around.
I walked on a trail which was supposed to be done on horse back! But it was hardly even a trail! I wonder why people would need horses to go there but then to each there own!
I took walks in every direction possible and I met an old couple in town. They invited me to their home and treated me to food! They also got Sidhu for me which is a tasty Himachali savory.
Overall my trip to Naldhera was a memorable one. I hope I will always maintain my enthusiasm for traveling and for small things that give me joy while traveling!
