Maldives Nostalgia

Posted on May 2, 2014April 28, 2021

Looking at my Maldives pictures leaves me with such deep nostalgia. Not looking at them also induces it! If I could run back to Maafushi, I would do so right this moment. This time I will go with a underwater casing for my mobile phone and I will not fall sick when I come back!

Tired Tired Me: I will let you into a secret. When we arrived at Maafushi we were dead tired. It was partly because of a very early morning flight from Delhi but it was much more because of our lifestyles. I tend to sleep late but I have to wake up at the same time to go to work. We were so tired that we were quite underwhelmed by the place. It was only after a good nights sleep we realized what morons we were being the day before!

No One in Sight!

Those Long Walks: For me vacations and walking are synonymous. Maafushi is a small island. I loved to walk along the beaches, mostly with the footwear in my hand. It helped that at times there was no one in my frame without making special effort. However, there were other tourists nearby, so it is not that I had the beach to myself.

A Solitary Tree
A Solitary Tree

Chatter Box by My Side: My younger nephew and I have traveled to Sri-Lanka together as well. At that point of time he just started working. He was a complete chatter box. Now he about two years old in corporate world and he has definitely gone quieter, at least on the first day. But as the vacation progressed he was back to the form. On the return flight I told him to use a zipper on his lips. Alas it yielded no effect. But how I miss those times, more so because many of my trips are actually so quiet.

Tourist vs. Traveler: I was fascinated to see the local women going to the beach everyday in their hijab. I wonder what they thought of us tourists? I never got a chance (and I am timid too) to talk to them. I have only fleeting impression of the local life. But then till I can become a traveler I am happy being a tourist!

Football at the Local Beach: In the center of the image (dark colored shirt) is my nephew. He is so mad about football that he can drag me away from the island we visited before sunset and I agreed to do so. Ah the nostalgia surrounding Maldives.

Love your photos of the Maldives. I love tropical seas, the colour of the shallows, rain clouds and warm sea to swim in. No wonder you want to be there.
