Neighborhood Bird Watch

Posted on March 12, 2012

Red Wattled Lapwing
Red Wattled Lapwing

Don’t go by the color of the water, this is a ditch in the neighborhood where lapwings are a regular feature. I have observed that these birds lay their eggs on the ground and if by mistake if you start walking that way, they scream and scream.

Indian Pond Heron

I had first clicked this bird on a lotus leaf! I have said this many times and I say it again, I became a bird watcher only after acquiring a zoom lens. And I get my birds identified here.

Egret

Looks like this egret got a bit dirty after taking a dip in the ditch water.

Mynas

I get to see a lot of Mynas. Like this pictures because it felt like they were sitting on a ย swing.

Eurasian Collared Dove

And here was an Eurasian Collared Dove peacefully going about its business.

A Squirrel Eating Rice

And finally even though this is not a bird I see them so often. And I know it is eating rice because someone had left cooked rice for the birds and squirrels on this wall.

we saw lapwings with their eggs at udaipur, and though some of them screamed a lot, a few seemed more in tune with the tourists milling around!! and lovely photos… its been ages since i photographed any bird in my area ๐Ÿ™

I am in Gurgaon, You are in gurgaon. But your Gurgaon is so much greener than my gurgaon which is very dry and brown. Are there more Gurgaons here?????????

    – That’s one dirty Erget. This is the first time I am seeing one fo them this dirty. All the time I have seen ergets they are pearly white!!!! Atleast they look like that from far.

-Eurasian collared Dove.is that the name?lol… I thought it was named Ring Necked Dove.

I recently found out how extremly interesting watching birds could be. Do you know any ameteur birdwatching clubs I could be a part of in Gurgaon??

gr8 shots of the lapwing and the squirrel. also, luved the framing for mynahs. the others u shud’ve got down to ground level for a better background – the ones u have a lot of clutter. still the sharpness and details are good.
