Mother and Daughter at Dhunda

Mother and Daughter at Dhunda

The mother and daughter visited our campsite at Dhunda in search of medicines. It is very common on a trek to be requested for medicines by Gujjars. I don’t know why the people living high up the mountains are called Gujjars. They have nomadic lifestyle, they build temporary shelters and move with their livestock to the places where food is available for the cattle.

So this pair came for medicine for fever as the father was having fever. The camp leader gave them the medicines after a conversation. In the hills one of the most common request at the end of the trek is to give away your common medicines. And for that reason a trekking doctor is all the more valuable.

Nomads struggle a lot. Poor people. In our country people still have to struggle for basic amenties.

Don’t know about Gujjars but people in remote places irrespective of their countries struggle for these basic things. … medicines, warm clothes and books/notebooks etc for kids.

The picture is beautiful… evening time, long shadows. 🙂

Though the origen of Gujjars are not clear but they claim that they belongs to Suryavanshi Kshatriyas and related to lord Ram, anyhow there are strong records in our holy books that they are kshatriyas and helped in fighting against demons.

Gujrat got its name because Gujjars ruled it, this is another interesting fact but lets not go in detail, its just for your information.

In Himalaya range Gujjars do not stick to one place, according to food and season they keep changing their living places and then return to the same places in next seasons. So they live nomad life style (khanabadosh).
