Branding Wednesday- Another HDFC Ad, Tulika Sharma

I rather like the HDFC Tulika Sharma ad. For many reasons. The biggest reason being that the father is quite OK in taking money from his daughter. Looks like a single child family set-up too, with the added advantage that the only child is a girl. You can very clearly see what kind of target audience they have in mind. After all this ad is not going to appeal to the set ‘beti se paise nahin le sakte’ (you can’t take money from your daughter). Only minor peeve is that the mother is included as an afterthought in the ad.

To me, the message seemed too simplistic i.e. “Buy insurance and you’ll suddenly have huge amounts of money at your disposal!”So, all I have to do to buy that SUV that I often fancy or help my father buy a fancy vehicle is to buy HDFC insurance, irrespective of how much money I earn or do not earn, as for that matter? That is, at least, a question that can be put to the advertisers.:DThe fact that I am a son and not a daughter is purely co-incidental.

I agree with Sidhusaaheb. all insurance ads shows that you can live lavish life once you buy their insurance irrespective of however little money you put in. In reality, its exactly opposite. however large money you put in insurance, you will not be able to live even normal life with the money you get from them at the end. forget returns, they will eat away 70% of money you paid to them.an victim of insurance companies/brokers.
