The Crimson Sunbird is a regular at the Barog Station and I could always spot it among these flowers. Makes for a very pretty picture and it is such a pleasure to watch. However, it won’t sit still at all and hence very difficult to photograph.
Long Tailed Himalayan Bird (Red Billed Blue Magpie is the real name, found it via Indiamike and the comment by Satyaendra)
Well, you can make out immediately, I have improvised that name! If you know the name, please let me know. There was a jungle full of them behind the station. I went down the stepped terrace fields towards the tress filled with the birds and they would find the most obscure corners of the trees with every branch and leave obscuring the view.
The other bird is a Red-billed Blue Magpie. Nice shots and posts on Barog.-Satyendra
Nice shot..especially the long tail himalayan bird..Please tell some more things about this place..means what can be expected here…
Satyendra, thank you. And what a wonderful collections of photographs you have!Tarun, I need till weekend to write a detailed post but if you have a specific question do let me know.I would recommend Barog to anyone who is willing to stay in a basic accomodation and is lookinf forward to long walks and nothing much else to do, apart from drinking tea at the station!
Bulbul – may be.
great pics from Himachal! Being (ex)resident of Shimla, even a name like Brog thrills me. Beautiful.
Hobo, no 😀 it is Red (or maybe yellow) Billed Blue Magpie.Praney, welcome to my blog. And what a beautiful place Barog is.

Thank you Rocksea, welcome to my blog.
Dear Mridula,
I truly appriciate your efforts in bringing to light the wild life of our great land. I sometimes feel worried if one day we are going to loose it all because of our nonsensical attitude towards Nature.
I would like to join you in these efforts that you are undertaking.

Thank you Dr. Goswami, I don’t think I am doing much, other than I enjoy taking bird pictures. I wonder if you blog.
Hi
I am new in bird watching so i am trinn to take the picture of bird so i don’t have perfect camera so can u suggest me what lense should i have to take the picture of bird.
thanks
Hi Nima, I use a 70-300mm lens. I am told that a 150-500mm lens is more appropriate. But the 150-500mm would require a tripod and I have not done this myself. Also these are Canon lenses. Hope this helps a bit.
