Back from Lansdowne

Posted on February 11, 2008
Lover’s Lane- Lansdowne (No I have no clue why it is called Lover’s Lane)

We took a short, Avomine filled break to Lansdowne. Ideally we would have liked to spend a few days more, but when given a choice between a hectic short break and not taking a break at all we would choose a short hectic one every time. I will have to say I have been to more scenic places but then a break is a break and it was wonderful.

I suppose there has to be some kind of history attached to the nomenclature.BTW, I hope you can find a more natural kind of alternative to Avomine, soon enough. Drugs almost always have some kind of a side-effect or effects.:)

There is nothing in Lansdowne that you’d usually find in a hill city. I guess the most beautiful thing about lansdowne is the lovely walks . Take a walk from GMVN hotel if you’re staying there and go upto Central school and come down via tip-n-top, church and land up in market again. might take upto 2-3 hours but every bit worth it. Then you may want to visit Garhwal rifles war musuem and the walk from there again leads to a beautiful landscape. THe Cantonment area is perhaps the place to be.meticulously managed you can take a complete round starting from main gate to Military hospital to temple and finally landup in Garhwal rifles cafeteria. I spent 2 years of my life in those areas so Iam pretty emotional about it, it is scenic and so well maintained. There are lot a place called bhullataal , again nice trekking route.then there is a river/stream down the mountain called bhaisonala,we bunked classes and swimmed there a lot but it is going to be difficult for tourists to reach there admist jungleIf you like walking, Lansdowne is place minus all the frills that any other hill city gives. So no Internet,no ice cream parlors, no pony rides, no fancy hotels but perhaps best for a weekend far from madding crowd. If you can walk upto the top of hill, you will see my school (central school)Have a good time.

Sidhu, I am so afraid of vomiting all through the way (more so for Sesha) that we want to continue with Avomine till I am very sure of the alternative. What to do!Priyank, the place is in Uttrakhand, the nearest railway station Kotdwar but no idea why it is called Lansdowne.VJ, thanks for sharing your thoughts about the place. We did walk a lot (that is the best part of taking a vacation) and we did see the central school.Saw everyting you mentioned but Bhaisonwala, maybe next time. How is Bangalore treating you?
