I fret a lot if I suspect that nature would come out all guns blazing at a sunset and I am stuck somewhere while the grand display is on. While I was in Goa I was staying right by the Miramar Beach, at GTDC’s Miramar Residency. I theoretically had two evenings to enjoy the sunset. On the first one, I was stuck in a car while the sun was going down. It helped that the sun went out into hiding quickly, leaving a grey trail behind. I was not missing out on much. The second evening I managed to go to the beach at the sunset. And I was glad I went.
I wonder if there would be a day when I would sit down quietly and just watch the sunset. As of now I worry more about underexposing the picture so that I get the colors correctly!
The sea was rough that day, there were warning flags put all over the beach and the patrolling car discouraged people for venturing beyond a few steps into the sea.
Another of my worries at sunset is to find a reference point for the picture. Just the sun won’t do for me most of the times! Luckily this yacht came into the view! I went into a mad scramble to change the lens. Thankfully the yacht was in no hurry, it took its time to glide over the scene, giving me ample opportunities to click pictures.
The sun decided to disappear a little above the horizon! However, I was happy that I was actually on the beach and not stuck elsewhere! There was a stiff breeze blowing and that meant I had to tie my hair severely into a ponytail or else it starts blowing in front of the lens and spoils my pictures!
This family of three was enjoying the sunset together. I sort of envied them, they had to lens to change, no ISO settings to worry about, they just went out on the beach and enjoyed the evening!
In a way I was happy that the sun went down a little early, leaving the sky almost flat. If the dusk would also create a drama, as it sometimes does, I would have been even more late for my date with the second day of Goa’s Coconut and Cashew Festival 2015.
PS. I was invited by Goa Tourism on this trip.
I started my India travel blog, Travel Tales from India in 2005. In 2016 I realized Travel Tales from India and Abroad better reflected my writings. I love to walk and ride in metros around the world. I have not been everywhere, I am not even close, but it is on my list. I also quit my job as a professor in 2015, it was a happening year! I did a Ph.D. from IIT Kanpur ages ago!
