A Painted Stork at Bharatpur

Posted on February 27, 2012

Painted Stork, Bharatpur
Painted Stork, Bharatpur

I just got back from Bharatpur. Thought I would share this picture of an adult Painted Stork. I was told that after many years of no water in the sanctuary, 2012 has been a reasonable year. Our guide mentioned that there is an agreement for water with Chambal now and the park should revive in the future. I was last at Bharatpur in 2006 and compared to that surely there were less birds this time. But there were still so many. I do not have excellent pictures but I did see Indian Sarus Crane among many other birds. Chhavi had an excellent time too.

I was reading my 2006 post and looks like I have come a long way. In 2006 I did not even recognize an Egret! More on this trip later.
