On the last day of my trip to Malaysia there were three of us who were sharing the taxi to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) airport. I was heading to Delhi and the other two were heading to Mumbai. My flight was at 6.30 pm Malaysia time and the Mumbai flight was even later. We met at the lobby of Pullman Putrajaya at 12.00 noon. And we were wondering what to do till we were headed for the airport. The time was too short to go to Kuala Lumpur and hang out there! Halley suggested that we should actually go to the airport early and hang out there! And that is what we exactly did. Kuala Lumpur airport is a pretty good place to pass time actually!
I have been through it twice and both the times I thought it was huge! The first time when I landed I did not know about the airport train. I refuse to sleep in an international flight and that leaves me completely disoriented on arrival. OK that and a glass of wine that I always ask for. So when I saw the train for the first time, I was wondering if I could actually walk and not take it?
But then I saw that no one was trying to walk so I also took the train. I am told that this is an automatic train with no driver in it. After taking the train I realized how far actually the arrival terminal is! Walking is just not possible!
The second time I knew I had to go and wait for the airport train. After walking for a long time I thought it was strange that I still did not find the airport train! So I asked someone and they told me I had to walk back! Looks like I by mistake walked into the domestic terminal! Well I have said it before, I can get lost even in a telephone booth if it has two exits! Anyway after a short distance I found the airport train and exited safely. I was now waiting for the Mumbai people to arrive and I was dead tired as true to my form I didn’t sleep a wink! KLIA has good wifi though and that is how I kept myself awake while I waited.
Getting back to your return journey when we actually wanted to spend a few hours at the airport, we had a great time. Nikhil and I were the vegetarians and we headed to the Starbucks for some veg fare. This is the only time I have been to a Starbucks store. With some food in my stomach, I went to do chocolate shopping. After that I sat near the departure gate and wrote a post on Redang Island using the free wifi! And soon the hours flew and it was time to head back home.
I am Mridula Dwivedi and I started blogging on 'Travel Tales from India' in June 2005. I renamed it Travel Tales from India & Abroad in 2016. I quit my job as a professor in May 2015. I am having a blast ever since. I do not miss my work but sometime I do miss my salary! Somewhere along the journey I ended up acquiring a Ph.D. from IIT Kanpur! I now wonder why?
